Keep both certificates. One proves the scrapping facility took your vehicle. The other proves it no longer exists.

Proof that the scrapping facility has received your vehicle and that you no longer hold it. This is the document you use to claim the tax rebate and any dealer discount.

Certificate of Vehicle Scrapping (CVS)
Proof that the vehicle has been depolluted, cut and permanently taken off the road. It supports cancellation of your registration.
Meaning: it no longer exists.
When should you scrap your old car, bike or truck?
A vehicle is ready for scrapping when repairs cost more than it is worth, it has failed its fitness test, or it has become an end-of-life vehicle (ELV). Keeping it costs you in maintenance, fuel, insurance and pollution fines, and an unused, unregistered vehicle can still bring challans in your name.

Vehicle scrapping FAQs: documents, scrap value, payment and pickup
Which documents are required to scrap a car in India?
You need the original Registration Certificate (RC), a copy of your PAN card, Aadhaar or other photo ID, address proof and a cancelled cheque for payment. If the vehicle is under loan, the loan must be closed and the hypothecation removed from the RC first.
How much scrap value will I get for my old car?
Scrap value depends on the vehicle's weight, metal content, age and condition. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has indicated a scrap value of roughly 4% to 6% of the ex-showroom price. Fill in the quote form for an indicative value, which is confirmed after physical verification.
How and when will I be paid for my scrap vehicle?
Payment is made by bank transfer (NEFT, IMPS or UPI) to the registered owner's account at the time of handover, once your documents are verified.
Can you pick up a non-running or accident-damaged vehicle?
Yes. We collect non-running, accident-damaged and long-parked cars, bikes and commercial vehicles on a tow truck or flatbed. Pickup is free within our service areas.
What if I have lost my RC or my vehicle is under loan?
The original RC is required, so apply for a duplicate RC at your RTO first. For a financed vehicle, close the loan and get the hypothecation removed before scrapping. Call us and we will explain the steps for your state.
How much road tax rebate will I get on a new vehicle?
Central rules allow a road tax concession of up to 25% for non-transport vehicles and up to 15% for transport vehicles when you register a new vehicle against your Certificate of Deposit. Road tax is a state subject, so the actual rebate depends on what your state has notified.
What is an RVSF and why does it matter?
An RVSF is a Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility, authorized under the Motor Vehicles (Registration and Functions of Vehicle Scrapping Facility) Rules, 2021. Only an RVSF can legally issue the Certificate of Deposit and the Certificate of Vehicle Scrapping on the Vahan system.
Is there any charge for pickup or paperwork?
No. Pickup, deregistration filing and certificate issuance are free for the vehicle owner. You are paid for your vehicle.
